Hello everyone! I am Ms. Forrest, let me tell you a bit about myself.
I earned my B.A. in Urban Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
I became a teacher because I am dedicated to empowering youth through the means of education. As an educator, I believe in having children use their own experiences and backgrounds as a lens with which to navigate both the academic and non-academic world. I believe that students and teachers learn through a reciprocal process, and my classroom is a reflection of this belief where the focus is on open discussions, sharing of ideas, taking risks, and learning from our mistakes.
As an educator in the 21st century, it is crucial that we use the amazing means of technology to enhance our classrooms. We are very fortunate to live in such as accessible age, and there is no doubt that technology is a critical part of all of our students' lives. Our role therefore, must be to show students how they can use these various technologies (social networks, YouTube, blogs, etc.) to better understand the world around them.
It is important that as educators, we never lose sight of one thing: hope. Hope that our students will be inspired to become lifelong learners. Hope that they will become active democratic citizens in our society. Hope that even after Math class is over, they will continue to analyze and solve problems in the world around them. Hope that they will not be afraid to question, challenge, and fight for change.
It is with this hope that I embark on this journey of teaching.
